The Winthrop Foundation is guided by a committed Board of Trustees consisting of seven members who volunteer their services, with Chairman Russell Sanford currently at the helm. Below are profiles of each Trustee, all members of the community and Winthrop residents.

Russell Sanford, Chairman

Russ Sanford has been a Winthrop resident for 37 years. He is President of Level Line, Inc., a construction company operating in Winthrop for 33 years. Russ has dedicated over 25 years to our community by volunteering on youth programs, being elected to various positions within town government, and supporting local businesses as a member of the Winthrop Chamber of Commerce. Russ ran St. John’s CYO basketball program for 5 years and was assistant coach for Winthrop High School girls’ freshman basketball team. He was a town meeting member, elected to Winthrop School Committee, member of the Government Transformation Committee, represented Precinct 5 as their Town Councilor for 12 years, and assumed the Town Council President position. Russ is an active member of the Winthrop Chamber Commerce as a board member and previously held the office of president for four years. Russ is married to his wife Suzanne and has two daughters Melanie and Veronica, plus four grandchildren. Russ appreciates the opportunity to participate on the Winthrop Foundation Board. His goal as the chairperson is to ensure that funds will be distributed fairly to benefit various organizations within our community.



Vincent Crossman, Secretary

Vinny is a graduate of Winthrop High School (1997) and longtime resident of Winthrop. After high school he graduated from Suffolk University (2001) where he received a Bachelors in Business Administration. In 2003, Vincent earned his Masters in School Administration from Cambridge College. Vincent has been employed in law enforcement for over 20 years. Vincent served as a sub-committee chairman on the Winthrop Middle/High School building committee, and later served as the co-chair of the Miller Field Building Committee. Vincent currently serves as Chairman of the Viking Pride Foundation and assists with his family's charity, Winthrop Charities. He enjoys boating and is an active member of the Winthrop Yacht Club.


Brian Leslie, Treasurer

Brian is a lifelong resident of Winthrop. Currently, he serves as the manager of general accounting at Massport. Before joining Massport, Brian gained experience in public accounting for five years and worked as an accountant for a large beverage importing and distribution company for another five years. Brian holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from St. Anselm College and Bentley University. In his free time, he enjoys engaging in outdoor activities and recreational sports to stay active. Brian has been actively involved in various activities and youth sports while growing up in Winthrop. He is eager to contribute to the Winthrop community through his role at the Winthrop Foundation.



Terence Delehanty, Director

As the Chief of Police in Winthrop, Terry Delehanty emphasizes that his numerous achievements are the result of successful collaborations with fellow community leaders, adjacent police departments, and organized labor.



Gus Martucci, Director

Gus Martucci is a lifelong Winthrop resident and graduated from Winthrop High School. He married his sweetheart Susan (Tarantino) and is blessed to have two children, Suzanne and Andrea. Gus is the President of Mutual Beef Co. and Vice President of A&K Waste Systems and the Massachusetts Wholesale Food Terminal. He is an elected member Winthrop School Committee and member of St. Johns the Evangelist Church Finance Board.



Vasili Mallios, Director

Vasili Mallios is a graduate of Winthrop High School (2007). After high school he graduated from Suffolk University (2011) where he received a Bachelors in Business Administration. Vasili spent four years working at State Street Bank as a fund accountant and client operations specialist. In 2015, Vasili made the transition from finance to education and began teaching in Lynn, MA as a 6th grade math teacher at Marshall Middle School. In 2016, Vasili began teaching 8th grade at Winthrop Middle School as a math teacher. He continues to teach 8th grade at WMS as well as oversee all extracurricular activities offered at the middle school. Vasili also has a Masters in Education from American International College (2018). Vasili currently sits on the Board of Directors for the Viking Pride Foundation and is active with the IAABO Board 130 basketball officials organization.


Chrissy d'Ambrosio, Director

Chrissy is a lifelong Winthrop resident and a graduate of Winthrop High School (1996). After high school she attended UMass Boston for her undergraduate degree. She is married to Mark D'Ambrosio with whom she shares three children. She's the co-creator and President of the Winthrop Viking Youth Cheer Association where she is also a coach, is a former board member of Winthrop Youth Hockey Association and is a founding member of the Neil Shapiro Memorial 5K Foundation. She is proud to have been an active participant in the naming of the Neil Shapiro Center for the Performing Arts. Chrissy is an active Realtor in Winthrop with the Highland Group at Compass. She is pleased to give back to her community by having the honor of sitting on the Board of Trustees for the Winthrop Foundation.
